DISPOSAL OF WANT-OF-ENTRY CARGO – IMPORTERS AND LICENCED CUSTOMHOUSE BROKERS

January 12, 2022

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to advise all Importers, Licensed Customhouse Brokers and Company Brokers that by operations of Section 90 (1) and (2) of the Customs Act, any goods imported and not entered and cleared within thirty (30) days upon arrival are deemed “Want-of-Entry” and as a consequence thereof can be disposed of by the Guyana Revenue Authority.

Any consignee affected by the above, and who wishes to enter and clear goods deemed Want- of-Entry cargo must make a formal request in writing to the Commissioner-General to do so. Once Want-of-Entry cargo have been gazetted, consignees have fourteen (14) days after its last publication to make a formal request in writing  (by letter or email) to have said goods entered and cleared, subject to the review, discretion and approval of the Commissioner-General.

GRA will not entertain any requests outside of the 14 days period after the last publication in the Official Gazette, unless due cause is shown.
