Apply for a New Hire Car Driver’s Licence

An individual who desires to obtain a New Hire Car licence to drive a hire car must meet the following criteria.

  • The Applicant must be at least twenty-one years of age
  • Capable of reading and writing English
  • The holder of a valid licence issued under Section 29 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act for the minimum of a period of two years
  • In respect of a re- migrant, a licence issued under Section 29 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act together with a valid driving licence for the class of vehicle that the applicant desires to obtain, both issued by the competent authority of a country other than Guyana.
  • Submit a statement signed by a Licencing officer to the effect that the applicant has been successful in the examination as to the provisions of the Act relating to traffic.

In addition to the above, the following documents are needed.

Requirements:

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Approval from the Certifying Officer and the Traffic Chief
  3. Original and copy of Private Car Driver’s Licence
  4. Copy of valid form of identification (National ID; Passport)
  5. Three passport size photograph

A fee of G$3,000 is charged on the application for a new driver’s licence. Further, the licence is valid for a period of three (3) years. The time applicable for the issuance of a New Hire Car Driver’s Licence is approximately two (2) working days.

Renewal of Hire Car Driver’s Licence

Requirements:

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Copy of Private Car Driver’s Licence
  3. Copy of valid form of identification (National ID; Passport)
  4. Copy of last renewal page of the expired Licence

A fee of G$3,000 is charged on the application for a new driver’s licence. Further, the licence is valid for a period of three (3) years. The time applicable for the issuance of a New Hire Car Driver’s Licence is approximately two (2) working days.

Note: It must be noted that the Hire Car Licence can only be renewed if the taxpayer has a valid Driver’s Licence
