New Hire Car Driver’s Licence
An individual who desires to obtain a New Hire Car licence to drive a hire car must meet the following criteria.
- REQUIREMENTS- The Applicant must be at least twenty-one years of age
- Capable of reading and writing English
- The holder of a valid licence issued under Section 29 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act for the minimum of a period of two years
- In respect of a re- migrant, a licence issued under Section 29 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act together with a valid driving licence for the class of vehicle that the applicant desires to obtain, both issued by the competent authority of a country other than Guyana.
- Submit a statement signed by a Licencing officer to the effect that the applicant has been successful in the examination as to the provisions of the Act relating to traffic.
 - In addition to the above, the following documents are needed: - Completed Application Form
- Approval from the Certifying Officer and the Traffic Chief
- Original and copy of valid Private Car Driver’s Licence
- Copy of valid form of identification (National ID; Passport)
- Two (2) passport size photograph
 
- COST- A fee of Two Thousand Five Hundred Guyana Dollars (G$2,500) is charged on the application for a new hire car licence. 
- VALIDITY PERIOD- A Hire Car Licence is valid for a period of three (3) years. 
- PROCESSING TIME- The time applicable for the issuance of a New Hire Car Driver’s Licence is approximately two (2) working days. 
- PROCEDURE- The Licence Revenue Officer will peruse the documents presented, once all documents have met the requirements, a lodgment slip will be issued to the applicant.
- The applicant will be directed to the Cashier to effect payment, where he/she is issued with a Provisional Licence.
- The applicant will be further directed to Dispatch Desk to uplift his/her Licence.
 
Renewal of Hire Car Driver’s Licence
- REQUIREMENTS- Completed Application Form
- Copy of valid form of identification (National ID; Passport)
- Copy of last renewal page of the expired Licence
 
- COST- A fee of Two Thousand Five Hundred Guyana Dollars (G$2,500) is charged on the application for a new hire car licence. 
- PROCEDURE- The Licence Revenue Officer will peruse the documents presented, once all documents have met the requirements, a lodgment slip will be issued to the applicant.
- The applicant will be directed to the Cashier to effect payment, where he/she is issued with a Provisional Licence.
- The applicant will be further directed to Dispatch Desk to uplift his/her Licence.
 
NOTE:
- It must be noted that a person must be over the age of twenty-one (21), and be the holder of a Motor Car Licence for at least two (2) years.
- It must be noted that the Hire Car Licence can only be renewed if the taxpayer has a valid Driver’s Licence.
